Understanding missing biomarkers in your results

Learn why some biomarkers may be missing from your report and how collection volume and shipping delays can affect results.

Written by Libby

Your report may occasionally include fewer biomarkers than expected if the lab cannot reliably measure every marker in your sample.

Two possible reasons are:

  • Too much time has passed before processing. Some biomarkers remain stable for less time than others. If a sample arrives outside the time needed for reliable measurement, the lab may be unable to report those results.

  • There isn’t enough blood to complete every test. A smaller sample may limit the number of biomarkers the lab can measure accurately.

These issues can happen because of transit delays or collection challenges, including factors outside your control.

Helping your next sample arrive ready for testing

Ship your sample the same day you collect it, ideally Monday through Thursday. Follow the collection instructions carefully and fill the tube to the level specified in your kit.
